It has been believed that nerve cells do not regenerate. In fact, in neural tissues also have stem cells, but they are not arranged uniformly in the nervous tissue, and are concentrated in several locations. In humans, the most concentration is in the olfactory bulb and is back gyrus of the hippocampus. These are the two places where neural stem cells are produced. Therefore, we do possess some potential for regeneration of nervous tissues.

Treatment of brain injury.

It is possible to use stem cells for the treatment of patients suffering from the effects of traumatic brain injury, stroke and other diseases of the central nervous system. Patients with brain injuries cannot be cured solely with surgical means, that is why researchers started exploring the ways that stem cells can be used to regenerate nerve tissues and treat brain damage.

Treatment of strokes with stem cells.

Strokes can be ischemic and hemorrhagic. In the first case,  little blood flows through the vessels, causing ischemia, lack of oxygen, in the second case a vessel bursts and blood enters the head.

Clinical practice proved that the introduction of MSCs to stroke patients had an evident therapeutic effect: the state of the musculoskeletal system, motor skills and coordination improved significantly,  fatigue and tiredness were reduced, general emotional and psychological state improved.

All this is possible because of the ability of stem cells to regenerate: instead of dead brain cells new cells are built.

Treatment of multiple sclerosis.

Stem cells can be used to treat multiple sclerosis.

Multiple sclerosis (sclerosis disseminata) is a chronic demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. Centers of multiple sclerosis are associated with autoimmune reaction that destroys myelin. That is a demyelinating disease. Myelin is a substance, which forms myelin sheath of nerve fibers. The myelin sheath is an electrically insulating sheath, which covers the axons of many neurons. (Axon is along slender projection of a nerve cell, by which nerve impulses come from the cell body to the innervated organs and other nerve cells).

Multiple sclerosis is quite a common disease. There are about 2 million patients with multiple sclerosis in Russia - more than 200 thousand.

After the stem cell therapy, the disease stops progressing. That is, we are able to stop the progression of the disease, and in many cases we observe significant improvement.

There is, for example, a patient who suffers from multiple sclerosis, who now can even go skiing, though earlier it seemed impossible.
